Post-tribulation rapture vs Pre-tribulation rapture

Pre tribulation rapture proponents and Post tribulation rapture proponents, both agree that the last seven years of world history begins with the antichrist signing a seven year covenant or agreement. This seven year treaty may relate to peace in the Middle East, however this will be a worldwide event that is televised and everyone will know about it. It may very well relate to a peace agreement between: Israel, it’s surrounding Islamic States, the UN and the European union.

It is my personal opinion that the Pope of Rome or Jesuit General (Black Pope) is the antichrist, and that he will sign this seven year agreement with the above mentioned States and Unions. Most of Jerusalem is owned by the Vatican and according to credible reports, Shimon Peres signed over the Temple Mount to the Vatican a few years ago. After the seven year agreement is signed by the antichrist (I believe this is the Pope), jewish animal sacrifices will commence on the Temple Mount (at this point the Jewish Temple has been rebuilt or is in the process of being rebuilt, after the Mosque on the Mount has been torn down).

However after three and a half years after the seven year agreement has been signed, the animal sacrifices will stop, and the antichrist Pope will set himself up in the Jewish rebuilt temple, and will demand to be worshiped as god. I personally believe the Pope will claim to be the reincarnation of Jesus and that he will demand to be worshiped as Jesus. This is the false antichrist Jesus that we were warned about in scripture as Jesus said, “If any man say into you, look, there is Christ, believe it not…for false Christs… shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:23:24)

Below is the scripture concerning the seven year covenant:

Antichrist will sign a covenant.. “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week [seven years]; but in the middle of the week [3½ years] he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering” (Daniel 9:27).

Some Christians believe that the church will be raptured out of this world and into Heaven before the seven year covenant is signed (This is known as the Pre tribulation rapture theory).

Some Christians believe that the church will be raptured 3.5 years after the seven year covenant is signed (This is known as the mid tribulation rapture theory).

Some Christians believe that the church will be raptured seven years after the seven year covenant is signed, and they believe they will go through the entire tribulation period here on earth (This is known as the Post tribulation theory).

Readers should note that the word “rapture” is a term used by Christians that relates to the second coming of Jesus Christ, where He supernaturally plucks out his church from earth and brings them into the Heavenly Kingdom. After my years of prayer, study and research, I have come to the conclusion that the Post tribulation rapture is the most accurate Biblical belief.

Originally I started off as a Post tribulation rapture believer, and based this belief on what I read in scripture. I then became a Mid trib rapture believer based on an idea that I heard, and then I became a Pre trib believer as my favorite preachers preached this belief. However after really reading scripture and carefully examining what the Bible states, it became clear to me that the Post tribulation rapture was the only Biblical idea.

If one reads Matthew 24, it clearly lists in chronological order, the events that take place before and during the tribulation, and it then illustrates the exact time the rapture will take place. Consider the scripture verses and my commentary below.

Jesus warns his church that false prophets and the antichrist will come to deceive them:

Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. (Matt 24:4-6)

Jesus warns his church that the antichrist and false prophets will persecute them and kill some of them (during the tribulation period):

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. (Matt 24: 9-10)

Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matt 24:23-24)

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains. (Matthew 24:15-16)

Jesus tells his church that they will be on earth during the last 3.5 year tribulation period, when the antichrist erects the abomination of desolation in the Holy place (Take note that Jesus says, “when you see” which clearly illustrates he expects his church to be on earth during the tribulation and see these events). However Jesus also shows us that some of the church will flee into the mountains and remain safe during the tribulation on earth (they will not be secretly raptured out of the tribulation as this is not mentioned in the bible, however much of the church will seek refuge in the wilderness in cabins or tents and they will be safe during the tribulation). In Revelation 12:14, it is also mentioned that some of the church will be led into the mountains, wilderness etc, where they can receive some relief from the antichrists persecution. However its clear that some of the church will be persecuted for the faith.

Take note in the below verse. These are the words of Jesus Christ himself, and he clearly explains that the catching away of the church (rapture) occurs “IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TRIBULATION” and not before. The below verses clearly illustrate a post tribulation rapture.

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24: 29-31)

If one reads Matthew 24, it is blatantly clear in my view, that the
rapture will take place immediately after the tribulation. I think
Matthew 24 was put in the Bible so people could be certain about
when the rapture would take place. I do not see any argument that
could be valid against Matthew 24’s clear illustration of a post-
tribulation rapture.

Some people have stated that in Matthew 24, Jesus was only talking
to the Jews, as the Jews would be going through the tribulation after
the church has been raptured out. I think this is just an assumption
and man made theory/rumor that has no basis in scripture. A
preacher who I admire holds onto this theory as well, however it is a
theory and has no basis in the Bible. If one reads a Bible with no
study notes, commentary or any pre-concieved idea’s, it is clear that
the Post-tribulation rapture is the only biblical concept in scripture.

Pre-tribulation rapture proponents also teach a secret rapture, where
the church will be raptured in secret and the world will wonder where
they have gone. However if you read Matthew 24:29-31, its clear that
the whole world will Jesus Christs return and also see him rapturing
true believers. The Bible is also clear in Matthew 24:29, that this will
anymore obvious than that).

The book of Revelation also confirms a visible second coming of Jesus Christ.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. (Revelation 1:7)

Scripture clearly states, the beast will make war with Jesus Christ’s true followers and the church, and this confirms that the church will be on earth during the tribulation and antichrist reign:

And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. (Revelation 13:7)

My personal view is that scripture clearly illustrates a post-tribulation rapture and that the church will be on earth during the tribulation. Some of the church will be killed for their faith by the Pope’s world government, however some of the church will find protection in certain lands (This could be a sympathetic country with a standing army that protects the church, or this could be in the wilderness in tents or cabins).

The antichrist will sign a seven year covenant or agreement with world leaders, to bring peace in the Middle East and other parts of the world. After 3.5 years, the antichrist will break the covenant and then the 3.5 year tribulation period begins (last half of the seven year period, and final 3.5 years of world history). At the end of the final 3.5 years, Jesus Christ will return and rapture (supernaturally translate his church out of the world and into the Kingdom of Heaven) his church.

For those wanting to watch the best objective and fair debate on the timing of the rapture, I would highly recommend watching a debate that occurred in England between Bob Mitchell (pro post-trib rapture) and Dr Richard Kent (pro pre-trib rapture). Bob Mitchell who is an excellent Bible student and researcher is post-trib rapture, however he attends a church that preaches pre-trib rapture as doctrine, this really shows that this man is objective and is non judgmental. He bases his post-trib rapture position on his own Bible study and research.

The debate is conducted in a fair and non bias way, as opposed to many American Christian TV discussions on this subject, where the debaters end up mocking each other in a distasteful manner. This is a fair debate where both individuals debate their case in an intelligent and decent manner (I must say I have great respect for both men after this debate). After watching this debate which was supervised by a non biased third party, I came to the conclusion that the Post-tribulation rapture was the most likely biblical doctrine. Whether your post trib rapture or pre trib rapture, the below debate covers both doctrines, and its probably the greatest discussion on the topic in the last decade.

The debate took place on Geneses TV in the United Kingdom, and can be watched by clicking the below link and scrolling down to the various parts:
